Visiting Venice from Padua: 2026 Access Fee Guide

Choosing Casa al Carmine as your base for visiting Venice is a strategic move for every traveler. Our property is located just 700 meters from the Padua railway station. This proximity allows you to reach the platforms with a very short walk, making the connection to the lagoon fast and frequent. For those planning a visit starting from April 3, 2026, it is essential to be aware of the new regulations regarding the Access Fee (Contributo di Accesso) to the city of Venice.

Calendar and payment methods

For the year 2026, the Municipality of Venice has planned a trial period covering a total of 60 days. The regulation will be active between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. The system aims to encourage travel planning through two different price tiers. In fact, the cost of the fee depends on when the booking is made:

  • 5 Euro Fee: For those who make the payment by the fourth day prior to the date of entry.

  • 10 Euro Fee: For those who pay within the four days preceding their entry into the city.

Therefore, booking in advance through the official portal (cda.veneziaunica.it) is not only a way to guarantee access but also a saving opportunity for our guests.

Exempt categories: who does not need to pay

Not all visitors are required to pay or register. There are several protected categories that can access Venice freely. In particular, for residents of the Veneto region and other specific categories, it is not necessary to request an exemption or provide substitute certifications.

The following fall under direct exemption without registration:

  • Residents of the Veneto region.

  • People born in the Municipality of Venice.

  • Minors under 14 years of age.

  • Students (including commuters) of schools and universities located in Venice or the lagoon islands.

  • Holders of the European Disability Card and their companions.

  • Personnel of the Armed Forces and Police Forces on duty.

Furthermore, the fee will not be applied to those visiting exclusively the minor islands identified by the municipal regulations.

How to purchase your train ticket

Reaching Venice from Padua is very simple, but Trenitalia’s rules for regional tickets have changed. You can purchase tickets on the Trenitalia.com website or via the Trenitalia App.

For even greater convenience, you can use the Tap&Tap system. This method allows you to pay for your journey by simply tapping your payment card on the dedicated readers at the station. You must tap your card both at the entry (Padua station) and at the exit (Venice Santa Lucia station). The system is valid exclusively on Regional trains and is active on all railway lines in Veneto.

For more technical details, consult the official page: Trenitalia Tap&Tap.

Casa al Carmine: just 700 meters from the station to Venice
