Padua is preparing to host a major cultural event: from October 24, 2026, to March 14, 2027, the prestigious Palazzo Zabarella opens its doors to a groundbreaking monographic exhibition dedicated to Max Pechstein (1881–1955), a leading figure of German Expressionism and member of the renowned Die Brücke group.

The exhibition features over 120 works, including vibrant paintings, watercolors, drawings, graphic art, and personal artifacts covering over five decades of his artistic journey.

Max Pechstein: Seeking Harmony with Nature

Born in Zwickau, Pechstein broke away from academic traditions after studying in Dresden to join the Die Brückecollective. An avid traveler, he drew inspiration from his trips to France, Italy, the Baltic Sea, and the South Seas, capturing the serene connection between humanity and untouched nature. Despite facing persecution during the Nazi regime as a “degenerate artist,” he was reinstated post-WWII, securing his legacy as a master of modern art.
